The ACTU Online Campaigner will work as part of a successful and dynamic team who drive all online campaign activity for the industrial, economic, social and political agenda of Australian Unions.

The role involves building and managing the ACTU’s social media presence by effective online messaging and strategic digital campaigning. This involves the production and distribution of material consistent with the key values, issues and messages of Australian Unions.

The role ensures maximum supporter and activist awareness of and engagement with key messages and dissemination across all platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Electronic Direct Mail (EDM).

REPORTS TO: Vice President

Online Campaigning: Be part of a hybrid team of online organisers and content producers that run or support campaigns for the Australian union movement. This includes managing specific online campaigns, with a focus on email, web publishing and social media platforms. The online campaigning arm of the ACTU supports the on the ground campaigning activities of Australian Unions.

Message Design & Development: Work collaboratively to design narratives that underpin online organising and messaging. Execution will encompass all online communication mediums — especially email, social media and video.

Content Creation: Work in collaborative campaign structures that oversee the production and distribution of content for communication through online and social media channels. Strong writing and editing skills are essential. Video production skills are highly desirable.

Training/Capacity Building: Participate in a wider programme that disperses key online organising skills to affiliated trade unions and other organisations, as directed.

Reporting, Tracking and Program Evaluation: Defining growth goals and executing measurable plan for expanding the digital assets of the ACTU as well as producing regular reports on digital actions and digital asset growth.

Internal Communication Requirements

Work closely with the Executive Team, ACTU Officers and across all ACTU teams.

Desired Skills / Qualifications

Selection Criteria:
Minimum 1 year on line campaigning experience (union, electoral, or issue campaigns).

High level digital fluency, including knowledge of and experience with digital campaign platforms.

Experience with, or drive to learn, best practices with online organising, communications and fundraising.

Demonstrated success maintaining and growing social media assets.

Persuasive writing/editing skills and demonstrated attention to detail.

Ability to use or willingness to learn graphic design software including Photoshop.

Ability to use or willingness to learn video equipment and video editing software including Premiere Pro.

Ability and desire to work both independently and in a team environment.

Experience liaising, working with, and managing relationships with affiliated organisations and external vendors.

Experience with, knowledge of, and/or passion for the Australian labour movement.
