Position Overview

The Oncology Medical Science Liaison is responsible for implementing the medical strategy for specific MSD oncology products. The MSL is expected to have a broad knowledge of the disease area, therapy area and insights on the competitor clinical development landscape. The MSL provides medical and tactical support to internal stakeholders, including the development and delivery of sales training, clinical trial feasibilities interactions, medical projects etc. The MSL builds relationships with scientific leaders providing them with the necessary information to make treatment decisions. These interactions also allow the MSL to gain insight on treatment practices and share these insights with the MSD organisation. The MSL will spend the majority of their time in the field with key scientific leaders.


  • Provides tactical and medical support to internal stakeholders about product related issues; assist in the development of Medical Affairs Plans (MAPs) with the Oncology MA; facilitates investigator initiated studies; supports clinical trial division.
  • Supports medical-marketing activities including sales training, promotional review, scientific leader management, advisory boards.
  • Acts as a scientific expert for colleagues in medical division, marketing and sales by providing medical advice to support MSD with product and disease state knowledge along with Oncology MA
  • Identifies and interacts with key scientific leaders and healthcare administrators through credible and accurate medical / scientific exchanges of information and appropriately communicate these exchanges to colleagues.
  • Ensures various engagement metrics (both quantitative and qualitative) are achieved.
  • Attends / participates in scientific congresses/meetings in Australia.
  • Performs all company business in accordance with MSD policies and procedures and country regulations (e.g. MA Code of Conduct).

Tertiary Qualifications

  • Medical degree, PhD or BPharm.

  • Pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment
  • Commercial environment
  • In-line and pipeline product knowledge

  • Sales and marketing

  • > 3 years pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Medical Affairs- preferably Oncology background
  • Medico-marketing
