The ACT Council of Social Service (ACTCOSS) is the peak representative body for the social and community services sector and people living with disadvantage and inequality in the ACT. ACTCOSS aims to ensure that government policy improves the lives of disadvantaged people and develops a well-resourced, cohesive and sustainable community sector. ACTCOSS is a member of the nationwide COSS network, made up of each state and territory COSS and our national body, the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS).
ACTCOSS is seeking a full-time, ongoing Policy Officer to join our Policy Team. This position is ideal for someone with experience in and a passion for policy analysis and advocacy that will improve the lives of people living on low-incomes or experiencing disadvantage. The position involves a variety of duties associated with research, policy analysis and development, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
The role involves building and sustaining relationships with ACTCOSS members, key partners and other stakeholders, facilitating and attending meetings and committees, and liaising with community representatives and government officials as needed. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable with developing policy advice and advocacy strategies on topics on which they do not have previous experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Strong relationships in the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community and a research background would be highly valued.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Policy Analyst and Research Manager and report periodically to the Director. ACTCOSS has above-award pay and conditions as part of the ACT community sector multiple enterprise agreement (MEA). This full-time position of 37.5 hours / week is classified under the SCHADS award as level 5, pay-point 1. The annual salary is $59,641, plus superannuation.
