Accountabilities include:

  • Lead and mentor a team of communication professionals to provide strategic communication direction and advice for the delivery of a large external communication program, in particular developing, approving, implementing and evaluating communication strategies that support key business priorities.
  • Oversee coordination of multi-channel campaigns to provide strategic direction and ensure a collaborative approach from the broader communication team.
  • Provide strategic, timely and client-focused advice, support and direction to all levels within the department.
  • Identify, develop and manage strategic and innovative communication processes and channels for the department and contribute to departmental communication goals, policies and procedures.
  • Research and report on best practice communication and consultation strategies and provide advice on how these strategies can be implemented to improve the department's communication function and reputation.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, taking into account their needs with regard to communication planning, processes, channels and content developments.
  • Prepare and deliver submissions, presentations, reports, briefs and research/policy papers to the communication team and management.
  • Proactively plan and manage team and project workflows, demonstrating a clear, authoritative and sensitive leadership style. Actively manage staff development and performance for work and project teams.
  • Actively direct and oversee the implementation of high-value multi-audience campaigns to meet organisational objectives and ensure alignment with Whole-of-Government communication policies and procedures.
