News Corp Australia is the nation's largest media company operating over 150 household name brands across print, digital and multimedia including The Daily Telegraph, NewsLocal, The Australian and news.com.au.
NewsLocal offers more than just delivering news. Our network of 20 leading local titles covers more than 650 suburbs across Sydney. Our newspapers and digital platforms are an essential part of community life, delivering uniquely local news and information read by 1.4 million people every week.
NewsLocal starts more local conversations every day about matters that affect and change Sydney communities than any other media organisation. Each of our 20 newspapers and their digital platforms are proud to provide a sense of belonging to the communities they serve, connect readers to their neighbours and importantly deliver breaking news as it happens.
This exciting Journalist role is a roving relief position, filling in for NewsLocal staff at 5 of our newsrooms across Sydney. It is not based in one specific suburban location.
Your day to day responsibilities will include sourcing and creating compelling content across multiple platforms and you will have a proven track record in producing quality news stories. As you will work across various NewsLocal mastheads, you will be a natural Reporter who can cover various rounds and topics with ease and enjoy the variety that this role will bring. Ongoing digital, social media, SEO and video training will be offered.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to move in and out of different news teams as required. You will have newspaper and multi-platform experience with proven writing skills where you have had to generate original story ideas. You will thrive on current affairs and know what is happening across Sydney.
Multi-platform publishing experience is a must and you will possess a demonstrated knowledge and solid understanding of breaking news.
You must be energetic, flexible and able to work independently and quickly. We are after someone with an extensive knowledge of a wide range of topics. Shorthand and excellent spelling and grammar skills will place you ahead of the competition. You will also need a track record of responsible journalistic work and initiative.
