Position Details About us

Situated in the Office of the Secretary, Ministerial Services delivers high level support services to the Justice and Regulation Ministers to help them meet their responsibilities to Parliament and Cabinet and in relation to statutory authorities in their portfolios. Specifically, Ministerial Services:

  • manages Cabinet and Cabinet Committee briefing processes
  • coordinates the development of the Justice and Regulation legislation program and monitors progress of the program
  • coordinates answers to parliamentary questions
  • manages the process for making appointments to Justice and Regulation portfolio statutory entities
  • arranges the tabling of statutory authority annual reports
  • provides a wide range of advice to the Ministers, their staff and all levels of the Department of Justice and Regulation in relation to Cabinet, Parliament and Executive Council matters.
About the role

As a team leader within Ministerial Services, the Senior Adviser is responsible for managing key functions associated with statutory entities in the Justice and Regulation portfolio. This includes:
  • managing and supervising staff delivering Executive Council services for the Department of Justice and Regulation
  • managing the ongoing program of statutory appointments in the Justice and Regulation portfolio, including regular and ad hoc reporting to Ministers, the Secretary and Deputy Secretaries on forthcoming vacancies
  • preparing complex Cabinet submissions and Executive Council documentation on appointment matters, as well as other instruments of appointment, replies to ministerial correspondence and Cabinet briefing notes
  • providing authoritative and credible advice to Ministers, Justice and Regulation Executive and the department on statutory appointments and Executive Council processes
  • liaising with senior statutory appointees and potential appointees on highly sensitive issues relating to their appointment
  • on an ongoing basis, identifying, developing and implementing improvement initiatives in appointments and Executive Council processes.
This is a fixed-term position for two years, based at 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have detailed knowledge of and experience in Executive Council processes, including statutory appointments. You will have strong leadership skills, with experience in effectively managing and supporting staff to provide high quality service delivery outcomes. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.
