Overview of the team and role

The Disputed Claims Team is comprised of the Reconsiderations Team and the Feedback


The Reconsiderations Team manages requests for reconsideration of Comcare decisions in accordance with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 (SRC Act). Reconsiderations are the formal internal review mechanism under the SRC Act.

The Senior Review Officer is a subject matter expert of the SRC Act. The role is responsible for the quality assurance of reviewable decisions for areas of expertise and ensuring consistency of reviewable decisions issued by the team. The Senior Review Officer is also responsible for managing the workload of designated Review Officers and

offering guidance through sharing their expertise.

Senior Review Officers also play an active role in Comcare’s in-house dispute resolution process.

Job specific capabilities

1. Demonstrated experience providing technical advice and comprehensive knowledge

of the SRC Act.

2. Knowledge of alternative dispute resolution processes including negotiation,

mediation and facilitated conversations.

3. Experience coaching and mentoring team members to enable the provision of high

quality customer service including accurate advice.

4. Highly developed communication skills, an ability to establish rapport and manage

effective stakeholder relationships.

5. Highly developed research and analytical skills.

Primary responsibilities

1. Provide advice to stakeholders regarding the interpretation of the SRC Act and best

practice dispute resolution.

2. Manage and conduct quality assurance of reviewable decisions to ensure consistency

of legislative and policy application in reviews.

3. Conduct complex reviews and advise stakeholders of outcomes in accordance with

relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

4. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of legislative/policy changes and developments

in case law.

5. Provide legislative and policy guidance to Review Officers undertaking reviews

relating to area of expertise.

6. Actively participate in Comcare’s in-house dispute resolution process and settlement

discussions with stakeholders.


7. Maintain in-depth knowledge of Comcare’s longer-term strategic and operational

outcomes, the possible impacts on the work area and monitor changes in the

broader work environment.

8. Contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic

planning for longer-term initiatives.

9. Develop and maintain complex internal and external relationships with stakeholders,

providing appropriate advice and managing the resolution of issues or complaints.

10.Participate in corporate learning and development activities.

11.Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity and environment practices in the
